Lutheran Lecture Series XX – What We Have Musically As Lutherans” with Kantor Richard Resch

Not only do we Lutherans speak the Gospel, we sing it as well. Out of our mouths comes the spoken and the sung word. And, how could they not? He who believes cannot be quiet. The Lutheran Church IS the singing church. We have been that since the name “Lutheran” was attached to “Church.” Lutherans sing polyphonically and in monotone. We have been known to use Gregorian Chant and chorale harmonization. We sing a cappella and with instrumentation.
A Lutheran “Hall of Musical Fame” list would be long. Martin Luther. J.S. Bach. Johann Walter. Michael Praetorius. Georg Telemann. Dietrich Buxtehude. Paul Gerhardt. Philipp Nicolai. Arnold von Bruck. Johann Crueger. Heinrich Schuetz. Jaroslav Vajda. Martin Franzmann. What we have musically as Lutherans is deep, rich and true.
Kantor Richard Resch, a participant, student and lover of the “sung faith” will speak at this year’s Lutheran Lecture Series on Saturday, April 25. His musical gifts are especially evidenced at the organ and in choral direction. Kantor Resch will speak on Saturday afternoon, preach at the Divine Services on Sunday, April 26 and lead the Sunday morning Bible Class. Plan to be the guest of Grace Lutheran Church on the weekend of April 25-26. Call 316-685-6781 or email graceoffice@glc.kscoxmail.com for more information.
