Weekly Update for Grace & Trinity

11 December 2020
*Friday of Populus Zion*

Dear Saints and Friends of Grace & Trinity,

*The Third Sunday of Advent*
Gaudete
Isaiah 40:1-11; 1 Corinthians 4:1-5; Matthew 11:2-11

*Gaudete!* “Rejoice!” This third week of Advent is a light in the darkness, a respite on the journey, a gracious visitation to all prisoners by our Lord Jesus Christ, who hears our prayers and does far more abundantly than we could ask or imagine. He comforts us with His word of sins forgiven. He directs our eyes to His work of giving sight to the blind, legs to the lame, cleanliness to the lepers, and ears to the deaf. More than that, He reveals Himself as the Christ, the *Coming One, *by raising the dead and proclaiming good news to the poor. Oh…and we get to mark all this joy ( *Gaudete*) with pink! Join us this *Sunday at 8am at Grace* and *11am at Trinity* as our Lord comforts His people by tying them once again to His cross and resurrection through His Body and Blood.

*Bible Study is at 9:30am at Grace. *We’re in chapter 10 of the Revelation of St. John. Please join us!

*Other things…*
· I wrote a series of articles for the Lutheran Witness “Series”, a new blog they’ve begun. They’re on reading the Old Testament with the Church Fathers. You can find the first, introductory article here. I have no idea how frequently they’ll release the rest. I hope you’ll enjoy and benefit from them!
· Concordia Academy’s December Newsletter  can be seen here. It’s looking at the question of what makes us particularly *Lutheran*. Enjoy! Also, if you’re willing to support the school financially, you may do so through the website: www.concordiaacademywichita.org.
· As part of its year-end campaign, the Eighth Day Institute  is pushing for 100 new members before the end of the year—we’ve already added 30! As President of the Board, I wrote an appeal letter, which you can read here . Membership rates range from $5/month (Student) to $100/month (Pillar), with a number of options in between. Please do consider becoming a member of this tremendously unique institute here in Wichita.
· Finally, for those unable to join us for Matins, but would like to include the Advent Litany we pray each morning in your own daily prayers, you can find it here.

*Prayer Requests…*
· Prayers for Rex Casner and family as they mourn the death of his father, Jack.
· For Morgan Goscha, who discovered this week that she has a sizable blood clot. Thankfully the doctors were able to catch it when they did!
· From Kathy Patron: “*Thank you, Grace and Trinity family, for your prayers! We thank God for favorable results! My biopsies were negative for cancer. Now we wait for results of other tests and meeting with doctors again.*”
· For Alan Nickel, recently diagnosed with COVID.
· For Dave Norris’ coworker, Lee, who has been told he has months—or, perhaps, even weeks—to live because of a terminal cancer.

Many blessings and much joy to you all in Christ our life,
-Pastor
